Katherina (Schlatter) Ehrat was the wife of Hans Georg Ehrat. She was born 1 December 1827 at Buttenhardt, Switzerland, a village about one mile away from Lohn. She was Hans Georg's second wife, his first having died shortly marriage.
Below is an aerial view of Lohn. Buttenhart can be seen off in the distance, to the northwest. We have no knowledge of how she and Hans Georg met. Buttenhardt had its own school, but not its own church so perhaps they met at a church function in Lohn. St. Martin's Church in Lohn initially served Lohn, plus six other surrounding villages. Another possibility for how they met is Jacob Schlatter who was Hans Georg's business partner in the Ehrat brick factory, however Jacob's relationship to Katherina is unknown. In the end, how they may have met is only conjecture.
Katherina was buried at St. Paul, Illinois.
